The Scag® Clam-Shell Grass Catcher (GC-CS) is the perfect answer for operators that do not want to leave the mower’s seat to dump their debris. This simple-to-use catcher system allows you to dump the hopper by pulling a lever.
After the initial installation, the entire catcher assembly can be removed and reinstalled in minutes without any tools! Just pull three quick-pins, release the belt and lift it off. A 12-bushel-capacity hopper collects debris from a blower that pulverizes the debris, reducing particle size and increasing the density inside the hopper. What does this mean to you? Shredding the debris allows you to pack from 50% to over 100% more into the same amount of space when compared to other grass catchers on the market. Simply put, you will be able to collect more debris before you have to stop and empty the hopper. That saves time and greatly increases productivity. NOTE: The Clam-Shell Grass Catcher fits most 2002 and newer models (with Velocity Plus™ Cutter Decks) and is not available for 72? models. Grass catchers are not compatible with propane and dual-fuel models.
The large-capacity hopper (12 bushels, 112 gallons, 14.9 cubic feet) is tapered to allow the debris to dump easily.
The all-steel blower assembly is driven by the cutter deck via a self-adjusting belt idler system, rather than an auxiliary engine. That means a more compact design, less maintenance, less initial cost, quieter operation and less overall weight. Thick, 1/4" fan-blade material ensures dependability and long life. Improved blower bearing features a stronger cast-iron housing and easier greasing for long, reliable service.
The patented auto-sweeper engages every time the dump lever is pulled. It pushes out any stubborn debris and ensures the hopper is clean. Being able to have the hopper completely empty maximizes productivity.
The dump lever is mounted on the right side of the mower for operator convenience and comfort.
Front weight system is standard equipment. The front weights counterbalance the weight of the rear-mounted hopper. Each weight weighs 35 lb. The mounting bar weighs approximately 21.5 lb. (Number of weights depends on mower and catcher model.)
The hopper door latches automatically engage when the door is shut. This prevents the door from opening even when traveling on uneven, rough terrain.
The hopper prop rod keeps the hopper door up and out of the way in case you need to get inside of the hopper.
The metal debris screen removes from the side of the hopper. This allows the operator to remove and clean the screen anytime it is necessary. Other designs require the rear door to be opened in order for the screen to be cleaned. This causes the operator to have to cease production and empty the hopper just to clean the screen. The Clam-Shell Grass Catcher debris screen can be cleaned at any time, without having to empty the hopper. The all-metal screen design is resistant to damage from debris as it enters the hopper; its flat design allows for easy cleaning.
Compact, vertical blower design adds only 8.5 inches to the width of the mower. That's less space than the discharge chute normally takes! The extremely durable, steel blower housing is angled at the bottom and front to prevent it from damaging uneven terrain. The blower fan is constructed of all steel—no light-duty plastic components. The blower fan is 12" in diameter with fan blades (4 blades total) that are 5.75" wide. It moves some serious grass, especially when compared to other "competitive" systems that only have 1.5"-wide fan blades.
